■ These chunks of steel, rubber, plastic and glass, sure seem to have a soul, don’t they? What other device can you name that spawns such passion? Certainly not your blender, your toaster or your lawn mower. None have the soul of a car. Its shape, utility, power, history, all add up to something special. None of those appliances compete for the public’s allegiance. Not many internet trolls inciting arguments over the superiority of their refrigerator. Even fewer go toe-to-toe, pitting competitive brands of stoves.
