Oscar-winning actor — and now writer — ADRIEN BRODY on the standout roles of his career
IF HE WERE not so frequently brilliant, you might call Adrien Brody’s career chaotic. He’s made Oscar-winning dramas, epic war movies, schlocky action, and really dumb comedy. The chaos, he believes, is kind of the point. “The whole beauty of being an actor is to inhabit different lives,” he says.
As he makes his first foray into screenwriting, with his latest movie Clean, Brody talks us through his eclectic career.
LESTER KING OF THE HILL (1993)
In his first major role, Brody played a heart-of-gold hustler in Steven Soderbergh’s underappreciated early work, about a boy living alone in a hotel.
“My assumption was that all my movie-making experiences moving forward would be like that film. And they weren’t. Here we had a real auteur filmmaker who had a wonderful creative vision and skill set and kindness.
