Whether it’s bare brick, Crittal windows, exposed bulb lighting or untreated timber, there’s just no getting away from the industrial look in interior design now. Is it a look for you? I love it but, when it comes to my own kitchen refurbishment, I am wary to do anything that might date fast or that I might covet now yet go off of in the near future. To this end I’m poring over our cover story, Aged with Grace which features a classically designed kitchen in a listed townhouse in Bath. It is a beautiful period room with cornicing and floor-toceiling Georgian windows, and it has been fitted very sympathetically, with freestanding furniture. It has a sort of Paris pied-à-terre meets English country house feel befitting for Paula Foulser, marketing manager of Petersham Nurseries, who lives here with husband Steve and three daughters, Ella, Pia and Darcey. They also have big informal parties here and even run sporadic supper clubs, which is about as near to Instagram #kitchengoals as it gets. See page 24. Speaking of hashtags, kitchens are incredibly popular online, and if you are new to Instagram you may be getting your head around who to follow and how to get your own home noticed. Skip over to page 109 where blogger Jess Hurrell (from Gold is a Neutral) has the inside track. October is also a key season for trends, and this issue there is so much new-look eye candy coming through, it’s a proper bonanza for the visual senses.
