The reflation outlook points to Europe springing an upside surprise despite expectations

Investors have given up on Europe. That is the conclusion you would draw from looking at flows into European equities in 2016, which saw a net outflow for the first time since 2011. With political risk on the horizon in many key economies, the smart money seems to have steered well clear.

It is an understandable position to take, given the upbeat mood on Wall Street since Donald Trump’s election and the string of disappointments investors have suffered in Europe during the past few years.
