A four-year project to develop an interactive website that maps burial grounds in England and Wales has been launched with a £586,700 Heritage Lottery Fund grant.
The Beautiful Burial Ground Project has been set up by Caring for God’s Acre, a non-religious charity dedicated to preserving and celebrating burial grounds and their hidden heritage and wildlife across England and Wales. With the help of ‘citizen scientists’, the project hopes to establish ‘a lasting and accessible record of the built heritage, social history and biodiversity of thousands of these precious community sites.’
