Preserving the stories, and sharing them widely
FT reader Kelly Southworth uses PowerPoint to create family stories, illustrated with family photos and images of heirlooms. Saving them as pdf files she finds that they are easy and economical to share widely with family members
My father, Sam Southworth, carried a pocket-sized New Testament with him throughout his service in the Canadian Army in WWII. He gave it to me when I was a teenager, and first interested in family history.
The New Testament had been given to Sam by his father, my grandfather, Edwin Southworth.
Ted, as he was known, had received it from his fiancée/ wife, my grandmother Gladys Wilmot Andrew. Ted carried it with him throughout his service in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WWI. Though both were injured, my grandfather and father returned home and had families.
