Well-known British genealogist Roy Stockdill has died unexpectedly aged 79.
Roy was a former Fleet Street newspaper journalist and a family historian for more than 40 years. He edited the Journal of One-Name Studies for the Guild of One-Name Studies for a decade and was a former trustee of the Society of Genealogists. He also contributed many articles over the years to Family Tree and the now defunct Practical Family History. A proud Yorkshireman, he lived in Watford for 50 years and passed away at his home in Poole, Dorset, on 18 October, leaving a wife, Stephanie, and two sons.
