Probate records
Probate records are court records which deal with the disposal of a deceased person’s property, and many include that person’s last will and testament. These records are a useful resource for family historians as the information often includes the date and cause of death, as well as details of next of kin and the deceased’s final place of residence. In addition to a will, probate records could also include an inventory of belongings and a testament, indicating the transfer of property to beneficiaries.
