The UK lockdown has seen a surge of interest in family history, as families seek to connect over the internet, and people isolated in their homes have more time to spend tracing their ancestors and the homes they live in.
New initiatives, such as ‘History Begins at Home’ (e.g. @historybeginsathome on Facebook), the #HouseHistoryHr on Twitter, and Family Tree’s #StoryOfOurStreet, all encourage people to look closer to home and enjoy the history and memories of their own families and localities.
Co-host Gill Blanchard explains how #HouseHistoryHr will work: ‘We plan to answer questions and provide tips and have themed topics.’ Keen to learn about house history? Join in at 7pm on Thursday evenings, where Gill will be joined by co-hosts, fellow professional house historians Nick Barratt, Melanie Backe-Hansen, Deborah Sugg Ryan, Karen Averby, Ellen C Leslie and the Tracemyhouse.com team.
