JUNE 2018
From 30 May Circus 250
Berkshire. As part of the national anniversary programme celebrating 250 years of the British circus, Newbury is commemorating the life and times of the famous showman ‘Lord’ George Sanger, who was born in the town, with a series of free events this summer. They include the 70 Years A Showman exhibition, involving a collaboration between Newbury Corn Exchange, West Berkshire Museum and the National Fairground and Circus Archive.
This will present a glimpse into Sanger’s life and world of Victorian performers, travelling fairs and circus past and present, and will be spilling out into the streets and into venues across Newbury (30 May to 2 September).
• All events are free, no booking required.
See http://circus250.com for details of celebrations nationwide and https://cornexchangenew.com/event/ celebrating-sanger for Newbury events.
