Q Should I move my existing website to Wordpress?
A Tony Kirkman runs the Kirkman One-Name Study, with a website he updates regularly at www.tonykirkman.co.uk This website is built and maintained using Serif Web Plus, a PC-based web builder package. Serif has discontinued support for the version and Tony asked whether this would be an opportunity to move the website to WordPress, rather than continue with Serif and purchase an upgrade. This is a common question from existing website owners who, for whatever reason, are considering moving to another package or platform but are unsure how to go about it. The answer really depends upon a number of factors including the website’s current hosting, software, content and layout but also human factors of such as technical ability and personal preference.
PC-based software (Serif ) and web-based applications (WordPress) use different approaches to produce the common end goal of a published website. With PC-based software, pages are created and edited locally on the PC and then published to the web, meaning a copy of the website is available on your computer; a useful consideration in case of accidents during a move. Web-based applications keep everything online, with pages kept in a draft state until they’re ready to be published.
