Tank pulled from the sea
While holidaying in South Devon recently, assistant ed Karen Clare was very moved when she came across this unique memorial in the tiny village of Torcross at Slapton Sands. The memorial is a Sherman Tank that was pulled from the sea in 1984 and now stands in tribute to the 639 men of the US Army and Navy who perished in an attack by German torpedo boats on 28 April 1944 during Operation Tiger, a training exercise for D-Day. The lessons learned from the tragedy helped towards the success of the Normandy Landings. You can find out more about this memorial and the story behind it at www.exercisetigermemorial.co.uk
