The sun no longer has his hat on, there’s no more hip-hip-hoorays, just the ever increasing cold, wet and for many, misery. Some bust on through and ride all year round, others decide to stick their bike (and kit) into the motorcycling equivalent of suspended animation. There are things you can do to aid both options, so here they are!
I’M HARDCORE – BRING ON WINTER!
We spoke to William at JHS Racing again for his tips when it comes to riding through winter given how many bikes they see during it, here’s what he said… “For starters, WD-40 up your whole bike (or a similar solution, Scottoiler 365 etc.), little things like your gear-lever, clutch and brake pivots etc basically any moving points, because water can get in and cause issues further down the line. Trust me, we’ve seen it happen on lots of bikes and it’s a simple thing to do to best avoid corrosion and other issues. Any bare metal needs a coating too. Also your tyres, keep on top of your pressures because if it’s too low for too long then it’ll wear funny, so if you then pump it up (or if you don’t), they won’t disperse water properly on a rainy day. And do try and have the right tyres on for the time of year, it’ll make your life much easier.”
