Pinch out weak growth from the clump centre to boost energy
Go through the new shoots of hemerocallis, selecting the weakest ones to take out. Use a knife or get right down and, with your hands, grip them, one at a time, firmly at the base to snap them out. Trim back any that tear or snap.
Do this before the flowers are setting so the strong shoots that are left are boosted by the extra energy supply that will improve the quality of the blooms. It also gives the stems more room so you end up with a neat and strongly upright clump in the border.
