Asiatic lilies need to be planted at three times their own height
There is still time to plant lily bulbs in containers of gritty compost now for some spectacular blooms this summer.
Choose a deep container, at least 25cm, and give each bulb at least 5cm of space in all directions. This will make sure that each plant is displayed at its best.
Asiatic lilies make roots from their stems as well as from the bulbs, so they benefit from being planted at three times their own height. Oriental types, which root at the bulb base, are best planted at a depth equal to the height of the bulb.
