For me, a new year always starts with a few resolutions. I’m usually quite good at keeping focused on my goals, but there’s one ambition that goes on the list every year that I never achieve, and that’s to spend more time gardening! I’ve tried all sorts – aiming to go outside for half an hour a day, trying to spend some of my lunch break when working at home doing a shor t gardening task, putting dedicated slots in my diary – and no approach seems to work for long. Despite my best intentions, I always end up squeezing gardening into busy weekends and there’s never quite enough time to get every thing done. I suspect (hope) I’m not alone in this, and of course it doesn’t really matter – I always relish any time spent in the garden, even if it is a bit frantic.
So as I greet 2024 with my usual gardening ambitions, I expect I’ll still get to May in a panic that I’m way behind. However, if I achieve nothing else this year, I will take part in our Grow Something Dif ferent initiative, trying out a host of exciting plants I’ve never grown before. Find out how you can join me on page 30, and do let me know what you hope to achieve in the year ahead. Happy gardening!
