Start your Engines!

The most fabulous television show in herstory is finally back for its eighth season – and once again, we’re the only gay magazine to catch up with all 12 queens! Shante, they SLAY.

NameAcid tothemuthaf’n’ Betty

Real nameJamin Ruhren, sung like the Bob Marley song

AgeThe old one

FromBrooklyn, New York

Career highlights: Other than walking through the doors of RuPaul’s Drag Race, perhaps making it three seconds on screen with John Hurt in An Englishman in New York, or performing live in Rome, Italy, with my idols Joey Arias, Penny Arcade and Sherry Vine.

The moment I first got into drag was: I was very young, being passed around as my sister’s cousin from out of town, with cheerleader pompoms as boobs and hair. That’s when I knew I was going to be a very passable looking girl when I got older.

My drag inspiration is: A mash-up of Leigh Bowery, Joey Arias, and every 80s cartoon and fantasy movie shoved into couture hyper-colour.

My greatest drag tip is: If you’re not believing the fantasy then no one else will believe it. Get your life!

My ultimate song to lip-sync to is: Any of the original tracks I’m trying to pawn off as amazing pop music. This clown in a dress needs a subway ride home, too.

The reason this is the ultimate song is: It’s as if it was written just for me! I’m singing on the track and, let’s be honest, I don’t look good gabbing my lips to Rihanna.

The defining drag moment in herstory to date was: When Quentin Crisp played Queen Elizabeth I in Orlando and wore her REAL clothes. GAG on that!

The shadiest thing ever is: This is yet to be Ru’vealed.

The season eight girl I’d kai kai with is: She’s a very sick individual. In fact, I’m starting to get very nauseous just thinking about it.

For me, being a drag queen means: You’re brave enough to explore every part of yourself and express what may be your most vunerable moments through make-up, hair and fierce clothes. It’s a gay man’s paradise, really.

My drag dream is: I want to flip the world on its head and dress everyone in drag. But ultimately, to move into the art world and explore the artistic applications of drag and all its mediums.

If I wasn’t doing Drag Race, I’d be: Taking photos of me shoving glitter, sequins, feathers and figurines in my mouth and calling it art, while Bob the Drag Queen cleans up the mess. I’m not far off, am I?
