“The LGBT community has long advocated for an openly gay character in the Star Trek franchise world, and so I felt like it was great to be a part of that portrayal in such an understated and tasteful, meaningful way. And the response that was generated, especially among young people, has been really exciting to witness and I feel proud to be a part of the version of Trek where it was able to be explored and integrated. I think it’s a real step forward in a mainstream summer blockbuster franchise film, and I think we all feel that way, we all feel excited that we could be a part of it.”
