{NEED TO KNOW}

SAKIMA

01 SAKIMA is a singer song writer from London who’s aiming to “take pop music tropes and apply them to queer narratives”.

02 In particular, he wants to normalise the idea that pop songs can be about LGBT+ sex. “Heterosexual stories of sex occupy a huge space in our culture and queer sex narratives don’t – and it’s not because the audience isn’t there,” he says. “It’s because over literally hundreds of years we’ve been conditioned to perceive non hetero sexual narratives as negative or harmful in some way. But obviously these LGBT+ stories of sex and lust are just as beautiful and important as any other. And I want to help them become a part of the mainstream consciousness.”
