Ask aled

Hey Aled! First of all, I have a confession to make. I’m not gay. Actually, I’m 52 and a straight mum of two. My eldest Josh IS gay though. He came out to us when he was 18, but his dad and I knew way before that – let’s just say he wasn’t good at clearing out his internet history. He moved to London last year and we don’t really hear from him much anymore. We see on Facebook that he has a boyfriend, goes out with friends quite a lot, and seems to be having a great time in the city. There’s a lot of smiles. But we just can’t get him to open up and share this new aspect of his life with us. We’ve always been supportive of his sexuality – we get him a subscription to Gay Times for Christmas every year, so I’m hoping he might see this letter – but we just don’t understand why he doesn’t want to include us in this new chapter. It’s almost like he’s ashamed to be honest with us about what’s going on. He barely even returns our calls these days. We miss our son. What can we do? From LD
