A Year of Transformation

Pádraig Rice and Michael O’Donnell of the Gay Project in Cork fill us in on their amazing year supporting the community.

Since Cork Pride in August 2018, the Gay Project has undergone a momentous transformation – all the while maintaining the same core purpose of supporting gay, bi, trans and queer men.

About GCN

Welcome to the January Issue of GCN, the very first of a new decade! We look at holiday destinations for LGBT+ families and the stresses involved without full parental rights. A piece on Poland shows how activists are still fighting in the face of state-led homophobia. There’s a fabulous photospread on Black Pride Ireland accompanied by their experiences of being queer people of colour in this country as well as a feature highlighting some of the incredible female and non-binary activists leading the charge for a better country. The Gay Project fill us in on their amazing year in Cork, while Tonie Walsh celebrates the iconic art of Derek Jarman. There’s also a wonderful piece on the much-missed nightlife venue, The Dragon. You’ll find a hard-hitting piece on the impact of the housing crisis on the LGBT+ community and how rising rents and lack of accommodation are driving people to breaking point. Have a festive season, readers, we wish you a new year filled with joy and happiness!
