The copper head of the Statue of Liberty sits in the heart of Paris as part of the 1878 World’s Fair. Modelled after Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty, it was placed there to inspire donations to help fund its completion. The finished statue was later gifted to the US – as was always the intention – to celebrate FrancoAmerican relations. It now stands in New York Harbor, a symbol of freedom recognisable worldwide.
