Home Farmer Magazine October 2017 Back Issue

Welcome to the brand new download of the October 2017 issue of Home Farmer – for me the first definite month of autumn as I always optimistically include September as a potential Indian summer. We have a full range of features, from the paddock to the pen, and the plot to the plate, with features on preparing your beds for 2017’s crops; producing bumper harvests indoors over winter; growing quince; producing soft-set honey; autumn and winter poultry care; growing and using that allotment staple, beetroot; when to contract out chores on the holding; which beers and wines to produce; and a masterclass on that great fun confectionery favourite, the fondant fancy. We are also beginning to look to a time when nights are drawing in and the outdoor world is becoming rather chilly, and this month we embrace a uniquely Home Farmer version of Scandinavian ‘hygge’ – literally ‘comfort’, ‘cosiness’ or ‘contentment’ – but described recently by the Guardian online as a conspiracy to sell just about everything from cardigans to yoga retreats and shepherds’ huts. Rest assured though, our home farmer version will only require some basic ingredients and a positive attitude. We’ve also stuck with our long-running policy of advocating home-made gifts – and I’ve specifically been asked not to mention the upcoming festive ‘C’ word here ‒ but nothing we’ve included in our suggestions will break the bank, although they will all hopefully be fun to make and a real treat to receive – a 100% cert with regard to the confectionery! Download you copy today to join in the fun!
