Budget updates for every room

Planning on sprucing up your pad? We have a whole host of nifty revamp ideas to give your home a boost without breaking the bank

The bedroom has seen better days and the lounge needs a little something extra, but you’re stuck for inventive and, most importantly, affordable ideas for a remedy. That’s where we come in. We’ve been scouring the web and racking our brains for the very best decorating hacks to give you highimpact schemes without the price tag. We’ve broken it down into four price brackets, though some of these golden nuggets could be brought to life with as little as the loose change in your purse. So whether you’re skinted or minted, we like to think there’s a little something in our book of tricks to spark everybody’s imagination.

Top Tip

Refresh an overlooked window by fashioning a no-sew half curtain with voile fabric hemmed using fusible webbing tape, then fit with Syrlig curtain rings, £3 for 10 from Ikea.

Quick-fix storage

Take advantage of every nook and cranny to stash away those knick-knacks that cause clutter. Secure hooks behind doors, baskets under beds and sofas, and look out for stylish vessels, such as painted suitcases, that are both decorative and practical. There are plenty of options to snap up for under £20.

Storage drawers, £18, Sainsbury’s

Umbra buddy hooks, £15, Amara

Children’s storage suitcases, £16.50, Becky and Lola

‘Mix plain tiles with more costly designs’
