Learn how to box a cow in a National Reined Cow Horse Association limited class.

Try it once. Cattle work can be addictive. Once you’ve learned how to quietly ride into a herd and you trust your horse to listen to your commands, as introduced in the August 2019 issue, you can work up to showing in National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) classes. With many new-tocattle- work riders interested in learning more, the association has focused attention on its “limited” classes.

In the limited classes, riders perform a reining pattern, then walk to the end of the arena, where a cow will enter. The horse and rider team must keep the cow “boxed” at the end of the arena instead of allowing him to move where he wants to go.
