Your horse’s respiratory system is highly sensitive. It’s made up of the large and small airways and the lungs, and its main function is to deliver oxygen to the blood and remove carbon dioxide. Sadly, in winter, when horses may spend more time indoors, breathing can become compromised.
Respiratory disease in horses is common and has many causes. Infectious diseases, such as strangles and influenza, are caused by a virus or bacteria, whereas non-infectious issues can occur if horses are exposed to allergens, such as mould, fungi and dust.
