Riding socks
The ultimate equestrian outfit starts with your toes – let’s take a look at some of the best designs for keeping feet comfortable in and out of the saddle
While socks are a relatively small part of your equestrian outfit, choosing the right pair will keep you warm and comfortable all day long, whatever you’re doing with your horse. With such a wide range of types, colours and patterns on the market, there’s so many to choose from it’s hard to know where to start
Our testers put this selection of riding socks through their paces this year, wearing them for riding, walking and yard chores. Read on to find out which ones most met their expectations.
What to look out for
Riding socks are likely to be faced with several different challenges so look out for designs that...
• offer reinforcement around vulnerable areas, such as the heel and toe
• provide a close fit under your boots, which is why some designs have thinner material over the calf area and a more padded footbed
• are made from breathable materials with wicking properties to prevent claminess and allow your feet to stay dry, cool and comfortable
How important each of these qualities is to you will come down to personal preference, so bear in mind how cold your feet get in winter and the type of boots you’ll be wearing them with.
