The free walk can be a tricky movement to master, but it also can offer double marks in some tests and is crucial when assessing the paces mark, so practising at home to get it right is key for increasing those dressage marks.
In the free walk, a judge will look to see if the horse is in a regular four-beat pace while remaining supple over a swinging back. There should be good relaxation, with the horse stretching forward and down to seek the bit, and steps that clearly overtrack.
