SHOW AND TELL
I love showing my cob, Gus, and it’s my dream to one day qualify for Horse of the Year Show with him. But recently, it feels like the discipline’s coming under attack from the rest of the horse world – largely because of the number of overweight equines in the ring. After losing one horse to laminitis, I’m strict about keeping Gus trim but well-muscled. Steps are definitely being made in the right direction in the show ring and, while progress might be slow, there are lots of us out there doing our best and being rewarded for it – at least on a local level. People are quick to tar all show riders with the same brush, but I’d like to take a minute to praise those riders who, like me, are trying their very hardest!
