A Leona Bramall answers: There are a couple of oral sedatives available for owners to use on their horses at home. However, they're still prescription-only veterinary medications and therefore, in order to receive the sedative, your horse needs to be under the care of a vet. Prior to prescription, he’ll need to be examined by your vet, who will, among other things, listen to his heart to ensure administering oral sedatives won't harm him.
