Always be prepared

I want to create an action plan in case of a strangles outbreak on my yard. What are the steps I should take and how should we manage the yard?

Mini me

Is a Shetland pony a suitable field companion for my 16.2hh competition horse?

Subtle signs

A livery on my yard keeps donkeys as well as horses. How does a donkey’s behaviour differ?

Agree to disagree

My farrier said something I didn’t agree with about my horse’s management, but he’s a trusted professional. Should I address it or ignore it?

And relax

My new horse loads well, but doesn’t seem very relaxed in the trailer. Is there anything I can do to help him feel more comfortable?

Get studying

I’d really like to go into equine vet nursing, but I’m worried I don’t have the grades to go to university. Are there other ways to train?

Happy hooves

My horse had a couple of foot abscesses over the winter – should I be worried that he gets them repeatedly? And is there anything I can do to prevent them?

Sedative savvy

Are there any sedatives I can give to my horse at home without a vet needing to administer them?

Making changes

I’m going to start doing cross-country with my horse over the summer. Do I need to let my insurance provider know about the change in use for my horse?

New shoes

Can I use hoof boots over metal shoes? And, if so, what would be the benefit of this?

Up or down?

What’s the benefit of using a hay manger as opposed to a haynet?

Loosen up

My horse is currently out of work, should I still do stretches with him?

Step outside

My friend watched one of my recent dressage tests and said my horse isn’t working into my outside rein on a circle. What does this mean?

On course

My horse struggles to stay straight into a fence. How can I improve this at home?

Balancing act

Are there any exercises I can try to help me rely less on my hands for balance when I ride?

End of the line

A lady on my yard always leads her horse with a lunge line – why might this be?
