MY LIFE
with horses
Join Emma Howieson for a week in her busy life as a vet student and full-time dressage diva, juggling her studies with her serpentines
EMMA HOWIESON
is a full-time vet student from Lanarkshire in Central Scotland. She manages her busy schedule of lectures, practical lessons and exams alongside competing her two dressage horses, Eva and Lila. If that wasn’t enough, she has six dogs to take care of and an active horsey social media account to maintain.
MON
Mondays are usually my day on campus, so I’m up and out the door by 7.30am to get to vet school for my practical classes. Since the pandemic, teaching at The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies has moved to a hybrid approach – this means that a couple of days a week, I have practical classes on campus but all my lectures are from home. On busy days like today, the horses have a day off, but there’s no rest for me! Before finishing for the evening, I fill my haynets for the week, get Eva and Lila in for a groom and do some stretches.
