Be choosy about your parking space. Park up on hard standing if possible to avoid moisture coming into direct contact with the underside of your vehicle, and opt for a level surface to avoid uneven pressure and wear on tyres and axles.
Sprinkling some baking soda over the floor of your transport before reinstalling mats can help to neutralise ammonia from urine, which will do your horse’s respiratory system a favour and minimise damage to the floor, too.
Make sure you clean and check the ramp, too, particularly the hinges and the vertical central line, which tend to show signs of damage faster than other areas.
If your horsebox or towing vehicle is going to sit for a while unused, fill the fuel tank all the way up beforehand. This minimises the risk of moisture in the tank, which can cause damage over long periods of time.
