The RDA helps thousands of disabled people every year, and the organisation’s pulling out all the stops to reach new members. H&R takes a closer look at a programme focused on enhancing its offerings
Providing life-changing experiences for disabled children and adults across the UK, the Riding for the Disabled Association’s (RDA) 432 UK centres are committed to offering new opportunities every day. Did you know that a total of 17,000 participants ride or carriage drive with the RDA and that there are 14,000 qualified coaches and volunteers?
Established for more than 50 years, the RDA now hopes to extend its support to an extra 10,000 people. Its advanced coaching programme, the Princess Royal Coaching Academy (PRCA), which has successfully completed its first full year, is just one of the ways the organisation hopes to offer more.
A royal connection
A keen horsewoman, The Princess Royal has had a passion for horses since childhood. In 1971, at the age of 21, HRH became RDA’s Patron and later in 1985, she became its President. From her personal interest, she understands how powerful the human/horse relationship is and the multiple benefits it brings. She knows how much of an impact RDA’s activities can have on the lives of adults and children with disabilities.
