Must Do Better
Incomparable - Loch Katrine

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs wasn’t always a National Park but it has been pulling in tourists for centuries. The early visitors were wealthy, keen to experience the grand, the picturesque and the romantic. They came by coach and by boat and also covered great distances on foot. By the mid-eighteenth century, after Sir Walter Scott had sold the area to the world (particularly in The Lady of the Lake) steamers and trains had revolutionised travel and were imaginatively employed to get visitors to the area, and to enable them to get around once they were hooked. As such, the area forms an interesting case study in public transport, and a measure of how well we’re doing today.
