The settlement is not shown on even the oldest Ordnance Survey maps

OVER THE last year there have been articles in the National and Scotsman newspapers, and discussion on social media, about a map showing British Army troop locations during the final Jacobite uprising of 1745-46, and continuing for over a decade after Culloden. The purpose of this article is to put the map in context, both in terms of how it was developed and in terms of what it tells us about that period.
