When the FIFPro World XI for 2017 was revealed, Hedvig Lindahl couldn’t stop smiling.

The 35-year-old has been playing at the top level of women’s football for almost half her life, earning more caps for Sweden than any other goalkeeper, male or female, and leading the Blagult deep into major international tournaments. She’s won the biggest honours in English football and played a key role in helping Chelsea become an established force both domestically and on the continent, including keeping a clean sheet in the first Women’s FA Cup final held at Wembley Stadium.
