This month we turn the spotlight on a new lettuce which has been grown in space. KG editor Steve Ott grew it to see if it was as worthy of space back on plant Earth

Summer salads are a real must in our household and so we grow and eat lots of lettuce. Always on the lookout for something new and novel to ring the changes, I came across a variety with a truly unusual story — the first to be grown in space on the International Space Station. Well, what with that and the fact that it produces eye-catching red leaves that are bound to make a splash in the salad bowl, I just had to give it a try.
