There are two types of allotment. Traditional plots are filled with serried rows of vegetables, neat and standing to attention like troops in a line-up.They’re pleasing to the eye in their own way, particularly if you’re a stickler for military-like order. And then there are the bucolic plots, essentially evolutions of the cottage garden where a painterly crowd of veg, fruit and flowers jostle for attention with stunning effect.
