PRIDE AND TRADITION

THE SAYOC PINTADO KRIS HONORS A BLADE, A CULTURE AND A PEOPLE IN THE MODERN WORLD.

The Sayoc mindset is “a knife fighter is a guy who ran out of ammo.” (Kayanan).

The Sayoc Pintado Kris is a knife made for fighting, and in the right hands, it is more than capable of holding its own. It encompasses all the battle-proven features of the traditional Kris (see the sidebar on page 41) and combines them with materials and designs to fit into the world we live in today.

The Pintado is not a survival knife or a bush knife. There are no saws, hammers or hidden compartments in the handle for storing extra fish hooks and such. It is, however, a high-quality blade that will help get you out of a really bad situation.

The following are my findings while learning about this outstanding weapon.

Backed by History

The late Pamana Tuhon Chris Sayoc Sr. once said, “When a warrior draws his blade, ten thousand hands draw the blade with him.”

This references a history and tradition via which everything is learned, sometimes the hard way, from those who have come before us. To emphasize this point, the Sayoc “Blade Passing” states that “every technique, every move, every lesson is taught because someone in the tribe, down the line, bled for it.”
