The story focuses on Mandela’s release from prison, his election as President of South Africa and his attempts to use the 1995 Rugby World Cup as a way to bring his people together after the fall of apartheid. The film is based on the John Carlin book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation. It is considered a front-runner for several Oscars.
