Michael Benson’s atmospheric shot of Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons
Space exhibition at NHM
The pictures in the Natural History Museum’s new exhibition feature oceans, deserts and canyons, but this is landscape photography like nothing on Earth, quite literally. Spanning six decades of space exploration, Otherworlds displays 77 images of the solar system created by artist Michael Benson using data from NASA and European Space Agency missions. Their captivating, up-close views reveal almost unfathomably distant places, like Saturn’s spinning rings, the rugged surface of Mars and the frozen, fault-ridden oceans of moon Europa; closer to home are images of cloud spirals and the glowing lights of Earth seen from afar. World-class space scientists discuss their work on the free audio and Brian Eno provides an unearthly soundtrack.
