Climb ev’ry mountain… in Italy
Reinhold Messner is not a man to do things by halves. The frst person to climb all 14 peaks in the world over 8,000m, Messner has since turned his attention to a collection of not two, not three, but six mountain museums in his native Italy, of which the latest recently opened for the winter season near Bolzano. Inside you’ll fnd exhibits on pioneering mountaineers – from the frst conquests of the Alps to expeditions further afeld, such as K2. Just as daring is the building itself: an astonishing Zaha Hadiddesigned construction, half-buried in a mountainside, 2,275m high. Peer over the viewing platform for sublime views across the jagged profles of the Dolomites: the same peaks where Messner learned his craft as a youngster.
