Jacobite travels

A major new exhibition is the perfect excuse for a trip to Edinburgh. The National Museum of Scotland looks at the often-romanticised figure of Prince Charles Edward Stuart, his backers (the Jacobites), and the ill-fated attempts to restore the exiled Stuart dynasty to the throne between the 1690s and the 1740s. The story can also be retraced through the newly inaugurated Jacobite Trail, which links 25 key attractions. Places of interest include Glencoe, where 4x4 safaris and ranger-led walks explore the majestic landscapes that witnessed an infamous massacre.
