A geisha in Japan’s Kyoto and more great images from around the world

Springtime in Kyoto is nothing less than magical, with its narrow back alleys, breathtaking shrines and enchanting gardens with cherry blossoms in full bloom. The day that I took this shot, I was completely immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of Maruyama Park, the city’s most popular spot for hanami: picnicking and relaxing under the pink-petalled cherry trees. While I was strolling through the park, a maiko (apprentice geisha) holding a paper parasol passed by me, and I was lucky enough to have my camera with me. When I look at the picture now, it brings back fond memories of Kyoto and its delicate and timeless beauty.
