INDIAN TRUCKS
I saw this truck on the road from Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu to Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. The men on board had been at work in a sugar cane field.
I was traveling through Rajasthan after a friend’s wedding and became fascinated with the colourful trucks that could be seen everywhere. I fell in love with them, their drivers and the roadside culture, and decided to return to photograph it all. I covered over 6,000 miles throughout India during this project. The roads are often hectic to travel along, while the vehicles you encounter there range from 18-wheeled trucks to ox-drawn carts, all somehow managing to coexist. Modern India is connected by a vast network of highways and rural roads that channel people and goods throughout the country. In the hot midday hours, roadside establishments known as dhabas fill up with men reclining, drinking masala chai and enjoying a meal.
