Travel Photographer of the Year

Our editors’ favourite images by finalists in this year’s competition, transporting us from the intense heat of Namibia to the deep chill of northern Russia. See more at, including details of an exhibition of the winners that starts in London on 28 March

The Kunene region is one of Namibia’s greatest wildernesses.Edged by the Skeleton Coast and mostly arid, it is home to uniquely adapted desert elephants and scattered populations of the nomadic Himba ethnic group. Here, in one of Earth’s remotest places, shops occasionally spring up – ofering basic but essential provisions, among them a refreshing drink.
