Have a capital time

Even if you’ve never heard of the Georgian city of Tbilisi, visit in early autumn and you’re unlikely ever to forget it. On the first weekend in October the capital celebrates Tbilisoba - part harvest festival, part commemoration of the city’s founding, and wholly more exciting than it sounds. For a few days the streets fill with stalls selling mtsvadi (shish kebabs) and khinkali (spicy dumplings), as well as the excellent local wine. The latter lends good cheer to the roster of music and dance events, and the party atmosphere spills over into Tblisi’s many new drinking hubs, such as sewing factory-turned-cocktail bar, Fabrika.
