Scotland Special

It’s always a good time to explore Scotland – go now or plan a trip for autumn

Step into the wild wood

Autumn may feel a long way off, but this is one date to book in early: the Wild Dining in the Forest event on 27 October, held amid tall pines in an East Lothian woodland. It’s one of the sporadic dinners organised by stylist and photographer Amanda Farnese Heath, usually in or around the beachside town of North Berwick. Dishes in the sevencourse feast are brought out to a long communal table, and enjoyed by candle-light in this most rustic of settings, with blankets to hand should an autumn nip start to bite. The meal kicks off with a single malt and mushrooms foraged earlier in the day by the splendidly-named expert, Monica Wilde. It’s also possible to stay in nearby treehouses after you’ve folded up your napkin.
