THE BIG TEST
Counting the cost of commuting How do you save money, overcome the frustration of commuting, and look good, all in one move? You buy one of these three frugal gems. With the cost of living crisis nibbling at our heels, we pitch the new Maeving RM1 against Yamaha’s retro-cool XSR125 Legacy and the superbly affordable Super Soco TC Max. But which one delivers the most miles (and smiles) for your pennies?

THE BIG READ
James Hiller’s incredible Dakar What do you do when you’re at the top of your game in road racing and fancy a new challenge? Well, you do the Dakar Rally, of course. Except most road and track racers (Danilo Petrucci aside) would never dream of heading flat-out into the sands of Saudi Arabia in search of a new high – but that’s exactly what James Hillier did last month. And on his own, too. This is his incredible Dakar story.

FIRST RIDE: Ducati’s sportiest Diavel has landed
Ducati’s Diavel blew many biker’s preconceptions into the weeds when it first launched, combining monstrous stomp with outlandish looks and a rear tyre so fat that there were concerns over whether it would even go round corners. But it proved to be a ridiculously excessive corner-hunting super-cruiser. And now it’s got even sportier for 2023.

WORKSHOP: Bearing up under the pressure?
You might remember to look at your tyres every now and then – and hopefully check your tyre pressures with even more regularity – but when was the last time you spared a thought for the unsung heroes of every mile you ride? Yes, we’re talking about the wheel bearings that ensure your smooth running, boost control and fuel efficiency.

The old stalwart

MCN is heavily weighted for motorcycle sport. GP, Motocross, trials etc with more adverts than you can shake the proverbial stick at. I do not know how many contributors they are but it must be hundreds. There is a good reason to buy the digital version as the paper is usually so thick many trees must have died. The reviews are always spot on. I hope it goes on for many more years. Reviewed 27 April 2019
